Biography

B. Douglas has enjoyed 37 years of success in many areas of the music industry. He is highly regarded as a performer, composer, arranger, and soloist in various small groups. He has been a band leader since 1976 and recorded several albums before attending Southern Illinois University. His recordings are in many genres including New Music, Blues, Jazz, Classical, and Psychedelic.

 

Whether performing in Krakow Poland, the islands of Trinidad & Tobago, West Frankfurt Germany, or right here in the United States B. Douglas brings energy to music! The Baked Potato in Hollywood, Harvelles in Santa Monica, The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach , Beale Street in Memphis, Printer's Alley in Nashville, or Shyrock Auditorium with the Southern Illinois University One O' Clock Big Band are a few notable places of performance. B. Douglas has shared the stage with Lonnie Brooks, Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Eric Gales, Joe Correro Junior, Baba Elefante, and Gary Hoey, disciple of Surf Guitar King Dick Dale, and the composer of the Endless Summer II Movie Soundtrack.

 

Douglas has studied composition with Dr. Frank Stemper a world authority in New Music Composition. He studied classical guitar with Joseph Breznikar author of the 12 American Etudes. B. studied Flamenco Guitar and Theory with Sam Reeves a world renowned musicologist. Douglas spent years studying  improvisation with "Doc" Robert Allison winner of the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Improv Contest held in Latvia Sweden. He studied Big Band arranging with Professor Phil Brown an American Arts Award recipient. He studied piano with Warner Brothers recording artist and author Donald Beattie,  leader of the World Piano Conference. B. Douglas currently studies Jazz and Classical Guitar with Dr. Isaac Lausell a wonderful mentor and former sideman of Eddie Gomez from Brooklyn New York. He studies music with Will Guston a friend and confidant of the great Howard Roberts. B. Douglas is also studying The Equal Interval System of composition developed by Lyle “SPUD” Murphy and taught by Glenn Jordan. Glenn won an Emmy in 1991 and his music has been heard by millions of people.

B. Douglas is a member of ASCAP, ASMAC, and Hollywood Local 47 Musicians Union.

He counts his wife of 32 years, Wendy, and three wonderful children as his greatest accomplishment. He has a son Dustin and twin daughters Amy and Amanda who are all accomplished in their own right.

Douglas is an avid mountaineer, educator, surfer, scholar, leader, and a practitioner who leads from the future as it emerges. He is one of the most charming and memorable people you will ever meet.
