MORE

Ever since I could remember I have been going to races. It was a place I felt at home and it was a natural place for me to be.  When I was seven a whole new world opened up for me; I got my first motorcycle. It was an old Yamaha YZ50. My 50 did not look every good and in fact, I don’t believe that it had a front number plate the whole time I had it, but it was a motorcycle and a Yamaha and I was stoked. I rode it for a while and as all kids do, I grew. One day after I got done riding my dad told me he knew where a faster bike was. I thought that he was kidding as there clearly could not be a faster bike out there than my YZ50. I was wrong and I quickly found that out. This was my first true love in a motorcycle. My 1996 KX60 will always be one of my favorites. I rode that little bike to death, then we rebuilt it, and rode some more. I did all types of racing on it; flat track, motocross, and hare scrambles. I was so proud when I won my first big race on it, a national hare scramble when I was eleven years old. Next up was my 85. I was still a little small for my 85 when I first got it and it took some getting used to. I did in time learn to like it. A few months after I got my YZ85 my dad, my uncle, and I went trail riding at Land between the Lakes in Kentucky. This was where I sustained my first injury. I was going up a hill and hit a rock. The big rocks there and the small wheels of an 85 are a bad combination. When I hit the rock it turned me sideways and my uncle ran into my leg. It hurt so bad a passed out! My uncle felt so bad he bought me another YZ85 to flat track. We laugh about it now as it was so long ago. I did not stay on the 85’s long as I really took a liking to my dad’s YZ250F. I started riding it and it was awesome. I loved the four stroke power. It was so easy to use! The suspension worked so well too! It was like I could run over anything and get away with it. One of the funniest moments we have caught on our home video camera is me finding my 250 flat tracker. I walked out to the shop and there was an YZ250F sitting there. I really didn’t think much of it until I saw the numbers sitting on the seat; a three and a two. Those were my numbers! I was so excited I jumped up and down and then went screaming for my parents, who in my excitement ran right past. There really isn’t a whole lot to say about my time on a 250 as I was only on it for a year. My 450 is a whole other story, however.  In AMA competition one has to be 14 to ride a 450. For my 14th birthday my dad took me to Sikeston, MO to race a short track on the 450. I was super nervous. It was a Honda and I had always had Yamahas! Also it was a 450 that has a lot more power than my 250. After practice though all my worries were set at ease, I was a natural on it. On my first race out I beat a Grand National Expert.  I did a lot of racing on my 450 as an amateur. I went all over racing; Daytona, Ohio, and all across the Midwest. In 2009 I turned Professional. I knew this was a whole new ball game. My first pro race was in Peoria, IL at the famed Peoria TT. I was doing really well until my second round of timed practice. To this day I am not sure what happened but I crashed going into turn one and broke my shoulder. I had to take some time off after that to let it heal. That was the worst part of the whole ordeal. I wanted to do things but I couldn’t because I was broken. In 2010 I was hungrier than I ever had been in the past. I wanted to make a name for myself and I wanted it to be big. I had some decent runs in the pro ranks in 2010 but I lacked a few fundamental aspects of my program. In 2011 I started putting it all together; training, focusing, and going after my goals. The hard work was showing and I am really excited for 2012. I have everything going for me. I am more focused than ever, I am in the best shape I have ever been in, and I have learned through experience what it takes to be successful in the pro ranks.
